Calatrava Out Who!
Two things you can discuss with Santiago Calatrava. One is that an architect is singular, unique and identifiable aesthetics up to the most ignorant. The second, which was a prophet in his land: not only has all the potential public and private awards, but its challenging and enduring work chairs renewed Turia riverbed.
Chapeau.
From there other considerations can be made less pleasant.
For example, his works always cost the public purse kidney usually higher than budgeted. A person who had a conflict with it acid, the Mayor of Bilbao, IƱaki Azkuna, treated him with unusual hardness: "It's a goddamn stingy" he said, after being sued by the architect have prolonged his Zubi Zuri bridge with a walkway, oh blasphemy, Japanese Arata Isozaki.
Others who are not very happy with the architect of Benimaclet are the neighbors of Venice on account of the security of your last bridge and especially New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, after the delay of the train station at Ground Zero , which has been crippled despite having exceeded Susler costs.
With these precedents and other more minor-need for a traffic light post on the bridge to El Saler, lack of functionality Sondica Airport, Palau flood of Arts ...- fully understood the words of a colleague: "Whoever hired Calatrava to know what is presented ..."
It shows, for example, have paid, as has happened to the Generalitat, 2.7 million for a study for the Convention Center Castellon, despite the soothing explanations Vice President Vicente Rambla, and is in line with projected No one knows what will serve.
So we should thank Marina Albiol, United Esquerra deputy, who has revealed the details of that contract. For that there is precisely the political opposition: to control the government and prevent any Parliament becomes a roller, not knead bread, but to tame conscience. And is that all public engagements, including Calatrava, are not "confidential matters" for "internal use only" as it strives to always say Gerardo Camps.
That does not mean that such agreements are not legal. Do not mention it. But, for its amount and its terms, are illogical, as well as with our architect who signed the now former president accused Spaniard Jaume Matas, who acknowledges having hired "a finger".
Although the Audit Office has finally given a dubious nod to these agreements, we all know too well the obsequiousness that show natural-whether these institutions are autonomous and state, whether audit firms and rating agencies or credit-to who appoint its members or paying for their services. And hence also the need to strengthen legal controls on their operation.
This becomes even more urgent in this now, when we are stuck coz sickle and a deep and lasting economic crisis, without public money or for the salary of civil servants.
Of course that does not seem applicable to fine characters as Santiago Calatrava, situated above assumptions and restrictions, who apparently did not affect the crisis, cuts or other limitations that central government imposes on other mortals.
